
Present installed capacity of THDCIL is 1587 MW having three hydro, two wind and one solar power plant. THDCIL envisaged to add 2764 MW upto 2024-25 with anticipated commissioning of its three under construction power projects namely Tehri PSP (4x250 MW), Vishnugad Pipalkoti HEP (4x111 MW) and Khurja STPP (2x660 MW). The installed capacity of THDCIL is envisaged to be 4351 MW by the end of year 2024-25.
Further, THDCIL is developing 2000 MW Solar Power Parks in State of Uttar Pradesh (Jhansi-600 MW, Lalitpur-600 MW and Chitrakoot-800 MW) through a Joint Venture Company namely ‘TUSCO’ Ltd. between ‘THDCIL’ and ‘UPNEDA’ (a Unit/Agency of Govt. of U.P), which has been registered in Sep’2020. Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, laid the foundation stone of 600 MW Ultra Mega Solar Power Park in Tehsil Garautha, district Jhansi (UP) in Nov’2021.
THDCIL has also signed a MoU with RRECL (Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Ltd.) on 15th Apr’2022 for development of 10,000 MW Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Parks in the Rajasthan state. The RE parks will be developed through a SPV in the form of a JV company between ‘THDCIL’ and ‘RRECL’. The development of 10,000 MW Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Parks is planned to be completed within 5 years with an estimated expenditure of about ` 40,000 cr. On completion of this project about 17,000 crore units of electricity shall be generated.
In addition, Ministry of Power, GOI, has allotted two hydro projects in Arunachal Pradesh; 1750 MW Demwe Lower and 1200 MW Kalai-II in Lohit valley for due diligence and to be pursued further with state Govt.. THDCIL has started due diligence of the projects.
THDCIL is also planning to implement ‘Green Hydrogen’ as pilot project of 1 MW capacity (Electrolyser & Fuel-cell based micro-grid system) at THDCIL Office Complex, Rishikesh (Uttarakhand).
Further with an objective to explore future possibilities of energy generation from Renewable Sources, Energy Efficiency and Environmental Technologies an MoU has been signed between THDCIL and IREDA on 3rd Dec’2021 to collaborate in the field of renewable energy for a period of 5 years.
THDCIL is also exploring possibilities of development of Hydro Electric, Pumped Storage and Renewable Energy Schemes in various parts of the country as well as neighboring Countries. Recently, Ministry of Power has indicated 10 Nos. Pump Storage Projects to THDCIL with total capacity of 12,555 MW. In addition, MoP has also indicated Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgarh and North Eastern Region to THDCIL for developments of PSPs.
The Corporation intends to provide consultancy / Project implementation services to other CPSUs / States / Private Sector in the implementation of the Hydro Power Projects.
