LOOKING AHEAD

  • Present installed capacity of THDCIL is 1587 MW having three Hydro, two Wind and one Solar Power Plant. THDCIL envisaged to add 2764 MW upto 2025-26 with anticipated commissioning of its three under construction power projects namely Tehri PSP (4x250 MW), Vishnugad Pipalkoti HEP (4x111 MW) and Khurja STPP (2x660MW). The installed capacity of THDCIL is envisaged to be 4351 MW by the end of year 2025-26.
  • THDCIL is developing 2000 MW Solar Power Parks in State of Uttar Pradesh, Jhansi (600 MW), Lalitpur (600 MW) and Chitrakoot (800 MW) through a Joint  Venture  Company  namely  ‘TUSCO  Ltd’  between  ‘THDCIL’  and  ‘UPNEDA’  (a  Unit/Agency  of  Govt.  of  U.P)  registered  in  Sep’2020  with  equity participation in the ratio of 74:26. In-principle approval for 2000 MW Solar Power Parks has been accorded by ‘MNRE’.
  • A JV Company named ‘TREDCO Rajasthan Ltd.’ between THDCIL and RRECL (Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Limited) has been incorporated in Mar’2023 for development of 10,000 MW Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Parks in the Rajasthan state.
  • The work of preparation of DPR of the Project ‘Bokang Bailing HEP’ on river Dhauliganga (a tributary of Kali / Sarda river) in District Pithoragarh (Uttrakhand) with a proposed installed capacity of 165 MW is in progress.
  • Ministry of Power, GOI, has entrusted THDCIL the development of Lohit Basin in Arunachal Pradesh also which includes development of Kalai-II HEP (1200 MW) and Demwe (Lower) HEP (1750 MW).
  • Government of Maharashtra entrusted two Pumped Storage Schemes (PSS) namely Malshej Ghat (700 MW) and Humbarli (400 MW) for updation of DPR. DPR for Malshej Ghat has been submitted to Government of Maharashtra for signing of Implementation Agreement.
  • Under India-Bhutan Co-operation in Hydro Power Sector development, MOP allotted in Bhutan two Projects namely Sankosh Storage Project (2585 MW) for updation of DPR and Bunakha HEP (180 MW) for updation of DPR as well as subsequent implementation on Intergovernmental Authority Model / JV with Bhutanese PSUs. DPR of both the projects have been submitted.
  • THDCIL endeavours to undertake projects and participate in Govt. of India’s National Hydrogen Mission. THDCIL is also implementing ‘Green Hydrogen’ as pilot project of 1 MW capacity (Electrolyser & Fuel-cell based micro-grid system) at THDCIL Office Complex, Rishikesh (Uttarakhand), which is nearing commissioning.
  • An MoU has been signed between THDCIL and UJVNL (Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd.’, an agency of Govt. of Uttarakhand) to harness the untapped potential of Hydro Power Projects in Uttarakhand. MoP has also conveyed their approval for the formation of a Joint Venture Company between THDCIL and ‘UJVNL’. The Joint Venture Agreement cum Share Holders Agreement has been signed between THDCIL and UJVNL in Oct’2023 and process of Registration of JV is in advance stage.
  • THDCIL is Exploring New PSPs (about 12125 MW) in the state of Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Kerala as indicated by MoP. After completion of work of PFRs of different projects, the discussions with respective state Govts. are in process for taking up the further development works (DPR etc).
  • An MoU was signed with KSEBL (Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd.) on 24.01.2023 regarding preparation of PFRs of PSP projects in Kerala. After preparation of PFRs, the discussions are in advance stage with Govt. of Kerala / KSEBL for preparation of DPR and subsequent development of Idukki PSP (300 MW) and Pallivasal PSP (600 MW) in Kerala.
  • THDCIL is Exploring Floating Solar Power Projects in Uttar Pradesh (Through JV Co. TUSCO Ltd.). After completion of work of PFRs of different projects, the DPRs of the 03 Nos. Floating Solar Project sites are under progress. A request for allotment of the work of PFR/DPR preparation for another three Solar   Power  projects is        under   consideration   by        UP Govt. In addition to above, THDCIL is also exploring Potential Floating Solar Power capacities in Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Maharashtra and Karnataka.
  • THDCIL intends to provide consultancy / Project implementation services to other CPSUs / States / Private Sector in the implementation of the Hydro Power Projects.
  • Further with an objective to explore future possibilities of energy generation from Renewable Sources, Energy Efficiency and Environmental Technologies an MoU has been signed between THDCIL and IREDA on 3rd Dec’2021 to collaborate in the field of renewable energy for a period of 5 years.
  • THDCIL have two Grid connected Roof Top Solar Power Plants of 500 KWp capacity each at roofs of various office buildings in THDCIL premises, Rishikesh. One plant was commissioned during year 2017 and the other has been completed this year. The energy generated from both of solar plants has to be consumed in upcoming green hydrogen production plant.
  • THDCIL is entering into new business areas like Power trading, Carbon trading, Green Hydrogen, Battery Energy Storage System, EV Charging Stations, etc. THDCIL has also obtained Power Trading Licence for trading of electricity within India.
  • THDCIL has signed an MoU with Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam Ltd. (GMVNL), Uttarakhand Govt., for establishing Electric Vehicle Stations on Char Dham Yatra Route of Uttarakhand.
  • THDCIL is also in process of implementing a Pilot Project for Carbon capture at Khurja STPP (2x660MW) with a newly emerging cost-effective Carbon capture technology. Based on outcome of this pilot project, the capacity shall be scaled up which shall help in removing majority of carbon-based emission (CO2, etc) from exhaust gases.
  • An MoU has been singed in Nov’2023 between THDCIL and ‘Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited’(KREDL), Bengaluru for development of Renewable Energy Projects including Pumped Storage Projects in Karnataka.
  • An MoU has been singed in Nov’2023 between THDCIL and ‘Karnataka Power Corporation Limited’ (KPCL), Bengaluru for development of Hydro, Solar and Pumped Storage Projects in Karnataka.
  • THDCIL is also exploring possibilities of development of Hydro Electric, Pumped Storage and Renewable Energy Schemes in various parts of the country as well as neighboring Countries
